Rovinj is Istria’s most photographed town - a peninsula of ochre and terracotta-coloured buildings climbing to the Church of St Euphemia, with a harbour of fishing boats and day-charter yachts below. It is also one of the more expensive destinations on the Croatian coast, with a concentration of luxury resort hotels that has developed in the pine forests south and east of the old town over the past 15 years.

The accommodation market here divides into three zones. The Old Town is the historic peninsula itself - narrow cobblestone alleys, guesthouses in converted stone buildings, and boutique hotels with views over the harbour. Mulini and Lone Bay lie south of town by the Zlatni Rt (Golden Cape) forest park - a pine-scented stretch of coastline with Rovinj’s larger resort hotels, beach access, and spa facilities. Island Katarina, a five-minute ferry from the harbour, has a single hotel with car-free seclusion.

We give price bands by type of stay rather than per-hotel rates, because rates change by date. Peak season (July–August) is the most expensive; shoulder season (May–June, September) typically runs 30–40% lower, and Rovinj is significantly better visited then. Check live rates on Booking.com (bands as of 2026).

Old Town - Best for Atmosphere

The walled Old Town peninsula is the heart of Rovinj and the most atmospheric place to stay. Most accommodation here is in converted stone buildings - apartments, small guesthouses, and boutique hotels hidden in the lanes climbing toward the Church of St Euphemia.

Best for: Couples, travellers prioritising atmosphere, anyone who wants to walk out of the door and be in the old town immediately.

Adriatic Hotel by Maistra Collection - a boutique hotel on the harbour front (Obala Pina Budicina) in the heart of the Old Town, with a brasserie-style restaurant and bars. The position on the Riva is hard to match.

Angelo d’Oro Heritage Hotel - a boutique hotel in a historic building in the pedestrian centre. Choose it for atmosphere over resort facilities.

Old Town apartments - widely available through booking platforms; a well-positioned apartment typically runs €80–140 per night in July. The best option for self-catering stays or if you want more space than a guesthouse room.

Luxury boutique stays in the Old Town generally run €130–300+ per night in peak season. The disadvantage of Old Town stays is noise. Rovinj’s main square and harbour area are loud until midnight in summer. The upper lanes near the church are quieter, but anywhere on the peninsula you will hear the general hum of a busy tourist town.

Mulini and Lone Bay - Best for Resort Facilities

The Mulini and Lone Bay area, south of the old town by the Golden Cape forest park, is where Rovinj’s larger resort hotels concentrate. It is roughly a 15-20 minute walk from the town centre along the coast - peaceful in itself, and a substantial upgrade in facilities over the old town options.

Best for: Adults seeking resort facilities and a proper beach; families with children who want pool access; honeymooners.

Monte Mulini Adults Exclusive Hotel - an adults-only hotel by Maistra Collection with balconies over the pool, garden and sea, and a large wellness area. It suits couples who want a quiet stay and are happy to walk or take a short taxi into town.

Grand Park Hotel Rovinj - a large Maistra Collection hotel with views of the Old Town and islands, a wellness and spa centre, an outdoor pool and a marina beside Mulini beach. Best suited to travellers who want a full resort experience with the option of walking into town.

Lone Hotel - a design-led Maistra Collection hotel inside the Golden Cape park, a short walk from the sea. It has a spa area and heated pool, and suits architecture-minded travellers and families who want nature at the door.

Resort stays here generally start around €200 per night in peak season and climb well above that for sea-view rooms (as of 2026).

Island Katarina - Seclusion

Otok Katarina (Katarina Island) sits in Rovinj harbour, a five-minute ferry ride from the main waterfront. The island is home to a single hotel, Island Hotel Katarina. Car-free and peaceful, it offers a very different experience from the town or the resort strip.

Island Hotel Katarina - a Maistra Select hotel set in a park with sea views and Old Town views across the water. A boat links it to the harbour; check the return schedule if you plan a late evening in town.

Budget Options

Budget accommodation in Rovinj is limited. The old town has few truly cheap options; most guesthouses charge mid-range prices because of location.

Apartments on the outskirts - the residential neighbourhoods northwest of the harbour (beyond the Carrera shopping area) have apartments from approximately €50–85 per night in summer. Less atmospheric, but within a 15–20 minute walk of the harbour.

Hostel options - a handful of hostels operate in Rovinj during the summer season. Dorm beds from approximately €25–35 per night. Check locations carefully - some hostels are 20–30 minutes from the old town on foot.

Practical Booking Advice

Book 3–4 months ahead for peak season. The Mulini resort hotels and Old Town boutiques often sell out early for July.

September is the best month for Rovinj. The sea temperature peaks (25–26Β°C), the crowds are thinner than August, and prices drop noticeably. The town is still fully open and lively. This is when the light is best for photography too.

Parking is a serious concern in Rovinj. The Old Town is car-free; the nearest public car park (Trg na Lokvi) charges approximately €2–3 per hour in summer. Arrive by transfer or leave your car at the park-and-walk facilities on the town’s edge.

The nearest airports are Pula Airport (PUY), 38 km south (taxis approximately €40–50; 40 minutes), and Trieste Airport in Italy, approximately 90 km northwest.
