Wizz Air Turns Podgorica Into a Low-Cost Hub for Summer 2026

Wizz Air has turned Podgorica’s Golubovci Airport into one of the Balkans’ fastest-growing low-cost departure points for summer 2026, launching a run of direct routes that connect Montenegro to major Western and Central European cities with no transfer required.

New routes operational this summer include services to Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Malmö, Bratislava, Hamburg and several Polish cities. The expanded network means travellers from a wide range of European origins can now fly direct into Montenegro rather than routing through Belgrade, Tirana or Zagreb — and at budget carrier prices.

For visitors planning a Balkans trip, the Podgorica connections unlock Montenegro’s interior as a practical starting point for a wider regional loop. The Bay of Kotor is roughly an hour’s drive from the airport, Budva’s Old Town is around 40 minutes south, and the mountainous north — including Durmitor National Park — is accessible in under three hours. Once on the coast, guided tours of Kotor and the bay make efficient use of a short stay. Montenegro’s Adriatic coast is in peak season through July and August, but June still offers uncrowded beaches with warm water. Our best beaches in the Balkans guide covers the Montenegro coast alongside regional alternatives.

From Podgorica it’s also straightforward to push into Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo is around three hours by road) or down to Albania’s coast via the Shkodra lake route. We have a dedicated Balkans in June guide covering what to pack, seasonal conditions and which border crossings to use.

Budget travellers particularly benefit from these additions. A weekend opening up in summer 2026 with a direct Wizz Air flight from Rome or Paris to Podgorica, a few nights on the Bay of Kotor, and a return flight is now a realistic short-break option without a budget that would usually be required for a Adriatic holiday.

Check the Wizz Air website for exact start dates, frequencies and baggage allowances, as route launch schedules on new Balkan services are occasionally adjusted during the first weeks of operation.
