Sarajevo old town, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Eurowings has resumed direct service between Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) as of May 9, 2026 — opening a new low-cost corridor between Germany’s capital and one of the most historically layered cities in the Balkans.

The route operates once a week on Saturdays and runs through to 24 October 2026. During the peak summer window — 2 July to 27 August — Eurowings adds a second weekly rotation on Thursdays, bringing the seasonal frequency to two departures per week. The Lufthansa Group subsidiary operates the service with an Airbus A320, with a scheduled block time of approximately 1 hour 55 minutes each way. Opening fares start at €64.99 one way.

What this means for travellers

Berlin has no shortage of budget connections across Europe, but a direct link to Sarajevo is far from standard. Until this service launched, travellers from Berlin typically routed through Vienna, Frankfurt, or Istanbul to reach Bosnia’s capital, adding three to five hours to what is otherwise a two-hour journey.

Sarajevo has attracted sustained attention — National Geographic recognised it as a standout destination for 2025. The city’s appeal lies in an unusual density of history: the Ottoman Baščaršija bazaar quarter, the Austro-Hungarian architecture of Ferhadija Street, the war-era Tunnel of Hope, and landmarks such as the Latin Bridge and the panoramic views from the Yellow Fortress can all be reached on foot. For guided context on the city’s layered past, Sarajevo walking tours and day excursions are available for all budgets. The city’s cafe culture and growing restaurant scene have broadened its appeal beyond history-focused travel. Our full Sarajevo travel guide covers the practical details: where to stay, costs, airport transfers, and a three-day itinerary.

For travellers combining Bosnia with the wider region, Sarajevo also works well as a starting point. Mostar is roughly two hours by bus; the Montenegrin coast is around four hours by road. The Bosnia and Herzegovina country guide runs through the full logistics, including onward connections by bus and car hire.

The new Eurowings service joins Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, and Wizz Air in linking Central Europe directly to Bosnia, with combined seat capacity now at summer highs across the Balkans corridor.

Booking

Tickets are on sale at eurowings.com. Introductory fares from €64.99 are available on select Saturdays across May and June; summer Thursdays carry slightly higher prices but remain well under €100 for advance bookings.
