Šibenik has a small number of sensible bases, and the choice mostly comes down to whether you want to walk out of your door into the old town or have a pool and car park. For most visitors, the old town is the best option. For families or road-trippers, the Mandalina peninsula is easier. Read this with our Šibenik travel guide and things to do in Šibenik. Best areas to stay
Old town. Heritage hotels, guesthouses and apartments in restored stone buildings, close to the cathedral and the Riva. The streets are pedestrian-only and stepped, so check luggage access. Evenings are lively around the main squares and quieter in the side lanes.
Waterfront and Riva. A short walk from the old town, with easier access for taxis and the bus station. It is the best choice for early boats to Skradin and Krka.
Mandalina peninsula. A resort area on the water, about 5 km from the old town, with a marina, pools and spa facilities. Good for families and anyone driving. Allow a short drive or a boat shuttle into town.
Skradin and the Krka area. A small village at the park entrance with a few guesthouses; a good choice if your main goal is Krka and you want an early start.

Budget and apartments
Private apartments and guesthouses in and around the old town are the best-value option, often with kitchens and air conditioning. Hostel beds are limited, so solo travellers should compare private rooms and shoulder-season rates. Staying outside the old town can reduce costs but adds taxi or bus time.
Booking tips
- Book early for July and August and for the late June children’s festival.
- Check whether the property has parking, since old town streets are restricted.
- If you plan to visit Krka, ask the host about early breakfast or packed meals.
- May, June and September offer warm weather and lower rates.
- Winter rates are low, but some restaurants and boats stop running.

Seasonal notes
July and August bring the highest rates and the most crowded boats to Krka, so book early. In late June and early July the international children’s festival fills the old town with events and raises demand for old town rooms. Outside the summer season many restaurants reduce their hours, but the cathedral, museums and fortresses remain open, and the city is a pleasant, inexpensive winter stop for a coastal road trip.
Getting around
Šibenik’s old town is walkable; the bus station and Riva are within a short distance. For Krka and the surrounding area, book a boat from the Riva or a guided trip; compare Šibenik tours for combined options.
