Where to Stay in Ksamil: Best Hotels & Beach Areas

Crystal turquoise water of the Albanian Riviera near Ksamil, viewed from a hillside with vegetation

Ksamil sits at the southern tip of the Albanian Riviera, 20 km south of Saranda and a few kilometres from the Greek border. It is the most popular beach destination in Albania — a small village with a cluster of turquoise-water beaches, four small offshore islands accessible by boat, and the Butrint National Park (UNESCO) less than 10 km away. The Ionian water here is genuinely extraordinary: shallow, clear, and a vivid shade of blue-green that photographs well but is even more striking in person.

The trade-off is scale. Ksamil is small, and what was a fishing village a decade ago is now a dense concentration of hotels, restaurants, and beach bars that strains infrastructure in peak summer. The main beach fills quickly in July and August. The offshore islands, reachable by short boat trips from the beach for approximately €4–5 return, offer more secluded swimming.

Ksamil works best as a base for two to four nights: long enough for the islands, Butrint, and the Riviera beaches at Qeparo and Himara if you have a car.

The Main Areas

Ksamil Village and Main Beach

The compact village centre is where most of the accommodation, restaurants, and beach bars are concentrated. The main beach (Plazha e Ksamilit) is a short walk from most properties and has the highest amenity concentration — sunbed hire, watercraft, beach restaurants. It gets busy in summer but early mornings (before 9am) are much quieter.

Staying within the village gives you the best walking access to everything: the boat departure points for the islands, the restaurants, and the main shopping street.

Lori Beach Area

Lori Beach sits at the northern end of Ksamil, slightly removed from the main village concentration. Quieter than the main beach, with a more relaxed feel and some of the better boutique properties. A 10–15 minute walk to the island boat departures. Good for couples who want beach access without being in the middle of the busiest area.

Near Butrint Road

The road south from Ksamil toward Butrint has a scattering of smaller hotels and self-catering apartments with more space between properties. Quieter at night than the village centre, but you will want a car or scooter to move around easily. Best suited to those combining Ksamil with a Butrint day visit.

Budget Options (Under €60/night)

Hotel Olive Ksamil (Lori Beach, from approximately €35–55 as of 2026): Steps from Lori Beach, with a garden, shared lounge, terrace, and free parking. A straightforward option for beach-focused travellers who want direct beach access at a budget price. Reviews consistently mention cleanliness and location.

Hotel Parid (Main Beach, from approximately €40–65 as of 2026): Located with Ksamil Beach within a two-minute walk. Clean rooms, restaurant, bar, allergy-free options. Well-reviewed for staff service. The Parid is a reliable budget-to-low-mid option in the centre of the village where you can walk to the boat trips and most restaurants without any transport.

Hotel Panorama Ksamil (Bora Bora Beach, from approximately €40–60 as of 2026): An eight-minute walk from Bora Bora Beach, with a terrace, restaurant, bar, and free parking. A step up from the most basic options; the panorama rooms offer views over the bay. Good value relative to the location on the Riviera.

Mid-Range Options (€60–120/night)

Hotel Four Islands (Village Centre, from approximately €60–95 as of 2026): Five minutes’ walk to Ksamil Beach, with a bar and free parking. Despite being rated as a three-star property, it scores an exceptional 9.8 with recent guests — the highest guest rating among Ksamil hotels on Booking.com. Within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the boat departure points. A strong choice for the price.

Hotel Ajden by Mira Mare (Ksamil, from approximately €70–110 as of 2026): A well-regarded four-star property in the Mira Mare family, with rooms that include balconies and modern bathrooms. Solid mid-range option with a pool and consistent quality across stays. Better spec than the budget options at a price that still keeps Ksamil accessible.

Hotel Mira Mare (Ksamil, from approximately €85–130 as of 2026): Around 270 m from the beach, with a rooftop pool and rooftop breakfast terrace that overlooks the Riviera. The breakfast buffet is consistently praised in reviews. Four-star standard with spacious private rooms, private bathrooms, balconies, air conditioning, and room service. One of the most reliably well-reviewed properties in Ksamil across multiple years.

Splurge Options (€120/night and above)

Poda Boutique Hotel Ksamil (Ksamil, from approximately €120–200 as of 2026): Direct beachfront access with Ionian sea views, a swimming pool with sea views, garden, terrace, and exceptional staff reviews. Bathrobes, mini-bars, balconies, and a boutique design that sets it apart from the more functional mid-range properties. Guests consistently describe it as the centre of Ksamil, excellent breakfast, and top-tier service. The best overall option in Ksamil if budget is not the primary constraint.

Practical Booking Advice

Ksamil has a very short but intense peak season. Book by mid-May for July and August stays — the village is small and the better properties fill quickly. The shoulder months of June and mid-September to early October remain far more available with significantly lower prices.

Ksamil has no ATM — the nearest is in Saranda. Bring cash in lek or euros before arriving. Most hotels and mid-range restaurants accept card payments, but smaller cafés and beach bars are cash only.

Boat trips to the Ksamil Islands depart from the main beach throughout the morning and early afternoon. A return ticket costs approximately €4–5 as of 2026. The islands have small beaches and clear snorkelling water; the best ones fill quickly by 11am in peak season.

For tours, Albanian Riviera tours and Butrint day trips cover the coast south of Saranda and the UNESCO World Heritage site at Butrint, which is 10 km from Ksamil.

Best Area for First-Timers

The village centre and main beach area, for walking access to everything. Hotel Four Islands is the outstanding value choice at this location — the 9.8 guest score at three-star prices is hard to argue with. Hotel Mira Mare is the step up for those who want a pool and higher room quality. Poda Boutique is the right choice for couples on a splurge trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ksamil worth staying in or better as a day trip from Saranda?
Staying at least one night is worthwhile if Ksamil's beaches are a primary reason for your visit. The Ksamil Islands boat trips run morning and afternoon — if you stay, you can take a morning boat and have the afternoon for swimming before the day-trip crowds from Saranda arrive. Day trips from Saranda (20–25 minutes by bus or taxi) are a viable alternative if you are based there. In peak July–August, Ksamil itself gets very busy regardless.
When is the best time to visit Ksamil?
Late June and September are considerably better than July–August. The sea temperature in late June reaches approximately 23–24°C, which is comfortably warm for swimming. September's water is the warmest of the year (around 25–26°C) and visitor numbers drop significantly after mid-August. July and August are viable but Ksamil is small — the village, beaches, and roads all feel the pressure of peak season.
How do I get to Ksamil from Tirana or Saranda?
From Tirana, the journey is approximately 4–4.5 hours by bus or car. Furgons (minibuses) run from Tirana to Saranda, from where you take a local bus or taxi the final 20–25 km to Ksamil. From Saranda, local buses run regularly to Ksamil for approximately ALL 100–150 (€1–1.50). A taxi from Saranda costs approximately €8–12 one way. Albania's improved SH8 road through the Riviera has made the southern drive from Gjirokaster considerably faster than it used to be.
