Where to Stay in Ulcinj Montenegro: Hotels, Apartments & Camping
Ulcinj has three distinct areas for accommodation, each with a different feel. Your choice depends on whether you want old-town character, direct beach access, or a quieter island experience.
Old Town Area
The old town (Stari Grad) sits on a rocky promontory above the sea. Accommodation here is limited - a small number of boutique hotels and private rooms within or adjacent to the old fortifications. It’s the most atmospheric place to stay: narrow stone streets, sea views from the ramparts, and easy access to the best restaurants. The downside is that Velika Plaža beach is a 20-minute walk south, and the streets can be noisy on summer evenings until midnight.
Hotel Dvori Balšića is the best option in the old town - a small boutique property built into the historic walls, from approximately €80 per night as of 2026. Rooms vary; ask for one with a sea-facing terrace.
Hotel Buffet is a more basic option in the old town area, from approximately €50 per night. Functional rather than characterful, but well located.
Private rooms and apartments within the old town walls are available on Booking.com and Airbnb from around €35 per night for a double.
Velika Plaža Strip
The 12km beach strip is where most of Ulcinj’s hotels are concentrated. This is the right choice if your priority is waking up close to the water. The architecture along the strip ranges from 1970s Yugoslav concrete blocks to newer apartment complexes - it’s functional rather than beautiful. The beach itself is excellent.
Hotel Mediteran sits on the Velika Plaža strip with beachfront access, from approximately €70 per night as of 2026. Good facilities, reliable service, and convenient for families.
Private apartments along the strip are the best value option: Booking.com typically lists sea-view studios from €35 per night, and larger apartments sleeping four from €60.
In August, the strip gets very busy - beach bars run until 2am, and noise is a factor for light sleepers. Rooms away from the beach (a 5-minute walk) are significantly quieter and 15–20% cheaper.
Ada Bojana Island
Ada Bojana is a river island about 10km south of Ulcinj’s old town. It’s accessible by boat (approximately €5 each way) or by driving down the peninsula. Staying here means accepting isolation - there are no supermarkets, no town centre, and limited transport options.
The appeal is peace, a long naturist beach, simple fish restaurants, and a very different experience from the main Ulcinj strip.
Ada Bojana bungalows are the main accommodation option on the island - simple wooden bungalows from approximately €60 per night as of 2026. They book out quickly for July and August; reservations several weeks in advance are necessary.
Camping at Ada Bojana starts from approximately €15 per pitch. Facilities are basic but functional. The camping area is separated from the bungalow sections.

Seasonal Pricing
July–August: Peak season. Prices are at their highest and availability tightest. The €50 hotel in June becomes €80 in August. Book early.
May, June, September: The best value window. Weather is warm, the sea swims well by late May, and prices are 30–40% lower than August. September is particularly good - the summer crowds have thinned but temperatures remain above 25°C.
October–April: Most beach hotels close. The old town has a few year-round guesthouses for those exploring off-season.

- Walk from Old Town to northern Velika Plaža takes 20–25 minutes - manageable but factor it into daily plans
- Taxis are widely available; a ride from Old Town to Ada Bojana costs approximately €10–15 one way
