Inside the Old Town
Walk the city walls
The 2km wall circuit is the single most important thing to do in Dubrovnik. The sea views on the western side and the rooftop panorama of the Old Town from the inland section justify the price. Go early (before 9am) or late (after 5pm) in summer to avoid the peak crowds.

Stradun (Placa)
The wide limestone main street of the Old Town, flanked by baroque buildings rebuilt after the 1667 earthquake. Free to walk; it forms the spine of any Old Town wander.
Church of St. Blaise and Cathedral
St. Blaiseβs Church faces the Stradun at its eastern end - a baroque church holding relics of Dubrovnikβs patron saint. The Cathedral nearby holds a Treasury with Byzantine works.

Rectorβs Palace
The former seat of government of the Ragusa Republic, now a museum with period furnishings and a collection showing life in medieval Dubrovnik.

Fort Lovrijenac
A free-standing fortress outside the western walls, accessible via the Pile Gate area. Used as the Red Keep in Game of Thrones. The views back across the city walls and Old Town are excellent.

Sponza Palace and Dominican Monastery
The Sponza Palace is one of the few buildings that survived the 1667 earthquake - now a state archive and small gallery. The Dominican Monastery has a notable Gothic-Renaissance cloister and museum.

Above the city
Mt. SrΔ cable car
A cable car rises 405m to the peak of Mt. SrΔ for the best wide-angle view of Dubrovnik, the islands, and the Adriatic coastline. The wartime museum at the summit is free once youβve paid for the cable car.

On the water
Lokrum Island
A 15-minute boat ride from the Old Town harbour brings you to this forested island with a botanical garden, a Benedictine monastery, a saltwater lake (good for swimming), and free-roaming peacocks.

- Best for: A half-day break from the Old Town
Kayaking around the city walls
Paddling from outside the Old Town harbour along the base of the city walls is one of the best views of Dubrovnik from water level. A guided kayaking tour departs most mornings and typically includes a swim stop at Betina Cave Beach.

Elafiti Islands boat trip
A day trip to the three islands (KoloΔep, Lopud, and Ε ipan) west of Dubrovnik. KoloΔep and Lopud have beaches and car-free streets; Ε ipan is the largest and quietest.
