Upcoming Events in Mostar Travel Guide

  • Mostar Summer Fest

    mostar

Three-day summer music festival in the heart of Mostar at SC Kantarevac, with a mix of regional and international acts.

Mostar is Bosnia’s most visually striking small city. Named after the Ottoman bridge-keepers (mostari) who guarded the Old Bridge, the city straddles the Neretva River with a compact Old Town that pairs seamlessly with day trips to Blagaj, Počitelj, and Kravica Waterfall. In 2026, the Stari Most (Old Bridge), cobbled bazaar streets, and riverside cafés are all within a 15-minute walk of each other.

One day covers the core. Two days is comfortable, especially if you add a day trip. From Mostar, the Croatian coast and Montenegro are 2–4 hours away by bus or car.

Top Sights

Stari Most (Old Bridge) — the city’s icon

The 16th-century Ottoman stone bridge spanning the Neretva, UNESCO World Heritage listed. Destroyed in 1993 and rebuilt using original stones, reopening in 2004. One of the most photographed images in the Balkans.

  • Entry to bridge/tower museum area: approx. 5–7 BAM (≈2.5–3.5 €)
  • Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon — midday is crowded with tour groups

Bridge Divers

Young locals revive the centuries-old tradition of diving from the high side of the bridge into the Neretva. Watch from the banks for free; best in summer afternoons.

Old Town and Bazaar (Kujundžiluk)

Cobbled pedestrian streets lined with workshops, cafés, souvenirs, and small restaurants just off the main square near the bridge. Free to wander.

Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque

17th-century mosque on the west bank of the Neretva. Climb the minaret for panoramic views over Stari Most, the river, and the hills.

  • Minaret visit: approx. 3–5 BAM (≈1.5–2.5 €); courtyard usually free

Kriva Ćuprija (Crooked Bridge)

A charming, low Ottoman bridge just off the main bazaar — quieter than Stari Most and equally photogenic. Free.

War and Genocide Museum

Museum documenting the 1992–1995 atrocities. approx. 5–7 BAM entry.

Fortica (Citadel) Viewpoint

Hilltop fortress with sweeping views over the city and river. approx. 4–6 BAM entry.
