Lake Bohinj has fewer rooms than Bled, which keeps it calmer and makes July and August book out early. Pick a village based on whether you want restaurants, trailheads or quiet. For transport and an overview, see the Lake Bohinj guide. Prices are approximate as of 2026; use live booking pages for current rates.
Best villages to stay
Ribčev Laz. The lake’s main village, at the eastern end, with the bridge, church, boat rental, shops and bus stop. The best choice if you are travelling without a car.
Ukanc. At the western end, near the Vogel cable car and the Savica trail. It is quiet at night and works for hikers who want early starts.
Stara Fužina and Studor. Traditional villages a short drive or walk from the lake, with guesthouses, farm stays and cheese traditions. Peaceful, with fewer facilities.
Bohinjska Bistrica. The larger town about 6 km from the lake, with the railway station, supermarkets and cheaper rooms. Useful if you travel by train.

Budget, farm stays and camping
Guesthouses, private rooms and farm stays are the main budget route, particularly in Stara Fužina, Studor and Bohinjska Bistrica. Campsites operate near the lake in summer; confirm opening dates directly with each site. Wild camping is not allowed in Triglav National Park.
Booking tips
- Book 2 to 3 months ahead for July and August.
- Check parking and the distance to the lake in the listing.
- Ask about the Bohinj Card or guest-card perks that some hosts include.
- Slovenia charges a tourist tax per person per night, added to the room rate.
- Winter weekends fill up near Vogel, so book ski-season rooms early.
Bohinj or Bled?
Bled has more restaurants, a bigger choice of hotels and easier day-trip logistics; Bohinj is quieter and closer to the park interior. See where to stay at Lake Bled. Then continue with things to do at Lake Bohinj and the Slovenia country guide.
Choosing by travel style
Hikers: Ukanc or Stara Fužina cut the morning drive to trailheads and the cable car. Families: Ribčev Laz keeps shops, swimming spots and buses within a short walk. Couples: lakeside hotels or a quiet farm stay offer the most atmosphere. No car: stay in Ribčev Laz or Bohinjska Bistrica, close to the bus and train.
How rooms compare with Bled
Bohinj has fewer large hotels, so smaller guesthouses, apartments and farm stays make up much of the supply. That gives you quieter nights and a more local feel, but fewer last-minute options in July and August. If your plans are flexible, book Bohinj first and Bled second.
Seasonal notes
Summer and ski season bring the highest rates. Late May, June and September balance good weather with lower prices. In November and early spring, some venues close, so confirm restaurant and transport options when you book.
