INmusic Festival

INmusic Festival is Croatia’s biggest outdoor rock and alternative music festival, held each June on an island in Jarun Lake on the western edge of Zagreb. The festival has run since 2006 and has established itself as the leading alternative music event in Southeast Europe, consistently booking internationally recognised rock, indie, and alternative acts alongside emerging regional artists. The lake island setting is one of the most appealing of any Balkan festival - the stage faces the water, and the surrounding park offers space to spread out between sets.

Programme and stages

Two stages operate across the island, with the main stage hosting the headline acts each evening and a second stage running a supporting programme across all three days. The lineup is consistently strong on rock, alternative rock, and indie - past editions have featured major international acts from the UK, US, and Europe. The programme is announced in waves from late winter, with the full lineup typically confirmed by April.

Unlike the pure electronic festival format of other Balkan events, INmusic skews toward guitar-led music, which gives it a distinct identity in a regional landscape where electronic festivals dominate. The island setting, the lake, and the park infrastructure make for a genuinely pleasant three-day environment that doesn’t feel crowded despite the numbers.

Practical information

Jarun Lake is located approximately 6 kilometres from Zagreb city centre, accessible by tram from the main square (Trg bana Jelačića) to the Jarun stop, or by taxi. Zagreb has an international airport with direct connections from across Europe. The city’s accommodation infrastructure is strong, and festival weekend does not create the same acute shortage seen at coastal events in Croatia - there are enough hotels, hostels, and apartments to absorb demand. Tickets are sold through the official INmusic website in tiered pricing waves, typically from autumn of the preceding year. Three-day passes and single-day tickets are available. Tips for INmusic

June in Zagreb is reliably warm but not the extreme heat of July and August - days in the low-to-mid 20s are typical, making this one of the most comfortable festival weekends in Croatia from a weather perspective. Rain is possible; the island does not have significant covered areas, so a light rain layer is sensible. Wellies are not typically necessary but sandals alone can be impractical if the ground gets wet.

Zagreb itself is a well-rounded city for a short trip beyond the festival: the Upper Town (Gornji Grad) with its cathedral, Lotrščak Tower, and funicular is easily explored in half a day, and the Dolac market is worth a morning visit. The Museum of Broken Relationships is one of the more unusual cultural attractions in the Balkans if you have time between sets.

Currency is the euro - Croatia joined the eurozone in 2023, so no currency exchange is required if arriving from other eurozone countries.
